The Post Graduate Program in Cultural Criticism, in the major area of Linguistic Studies and Literary Studies, with a master’s course that started in August 2009 and, since August 2019, also with a doctoral course, seeks to train qualified personnel to the teaching and research activities in the field of culture, focusing on the linguistic-literary contributions to the human sciences in the last hundred years and, at the same time, guiding and practicing the new demands of the cultural field for the studies of literary criticism, theory and historiography. In this sense, qualification planned and set in motion implies not only a theory and a high-level practice of speculation about the institutionalization of the cultural fabric in the contemporary world, the meaning of literary institutions and public policies concerning literacy and the formation of readers and educators, but an effort aimed at the institution of advanced research in linguistic and literary rights, at UNEB, thus expanding the spaces for dialogue with other programs in the area in Brazil and abroad.
More than 160 masters in these 10 years are working in the public network, at its different levels, studying for a doctorate in several programs in Bahia and Brazil, in addition to professors and researchers in private colleges, Federal Institutes and in public universities.
After a 04-year PROCAD (2012-2016) with the Post-Lit of UFMG ( Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais) , maximum concept in Capes (7.0), the repercussions of the program extrapolated the local and regional sphere to a national scope and already with solid partnerships with international university institutions, for example the University of San Marcos, Lima, Peru, Peking University, China, the State University of Saint Petersburg, Russia, the University of Nehru Jawaharlal, India, School of Higher Studies, France.
As an administrative institutional space at UNEB, the Cultural Criticism Program, allied to with the Degree courses in Portuguese Language and Literatures, English Language and Literatures and French Language and Literatures, are being dismembered from the Department of Education to a new Department of Linguistics, Literature and Arts at UNEB’s Campus II. A historic achievement after 06 years of hard work.
The social, cultural and educational impacts of the Cultural Criticism Program in these years have been an important resource for qualifying high-level personnel for teaching and research at all levels of the Brazilian educational system, it has provided advice to the language and human sciences sector of the network of public schools in Alagoinhas and region, aiming at the institutionalization of Junior Scientific Initiation, with teacher training for research, establishment of effective partnerships for group work and network, both ones work involving reading and textual creation laboratories.
Added to these impacts are the regional and national provocations for ANPOLL to rethink its Statute and Regulations, create a new type of associate, the Community Associate, and spread throughout Brazil, in the form of state sections, like the ANPUH and, thus, inserting Literature professionals (students in training and public school teachers) in the political-scientific debate of the linguistic-literary field in relation to governments and the State.
